First day of Thul Hujja 1429 AH in some countries

Local Sighting: Moon was not sighted around central Virginia on the evening of Friday November 28, 2008 due to cloudy weather. Accordingly Saturday November 29 is 30th of Thul Qadah.

Based on local moon sighting, first day of Thul Hujja is from Sunday November 30, 2008 or Eid-ul-Adha (10th of Thul Hujja) is from Tuesday December 9, 2008

Impossible to see the moon on the evening of November 27, 2008 in Richmond area.

Moonset = 5:21 PM EST
Visibility at Sunset= 1.4 percent
Moon Age at Sunset= About 29 Hours

Moon will be few degrees above from the horizon, so very hard to see the moon in Richmond area, hence according to local moon sighting Zul Hijja may start from Sunday November 30, 2008. Hence Eid-ul-Adha (10th of Zul Hijja) base on moon sighting may start from Tuesday December 9, 2008.

First day of Shaban 1429 AH in some countries

Local Sighting: Due to heavy cloud and haze, there were no moon sighting reported in Central Virginia on the evening of Saturday August 2, 2008. However, in Blacksburg Virginia according to Moonsighting.com

"Javad Torabinejad (MCW member) from Blacksburg Virginia reported: Seen
This evening (Saturday, Aug 2, 2008), we sighted the moon in Blacksburg, VA. It was first sighted using a pair of binoculars and soon after with naked eye. The first sighting was at 8:33 (sunset, 8:27). The horns were at 1:30 and 6:00 O'Clock."

Accordingly Shaban started from Sunday August 2.

National: According to Moonsighting.com "Non-sighting for Sha'ban crescent moon was reported in Pakitan by several people, and also in USA on August 1. On August 2, the moon was seen in Sydney Australia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Mauritius, South Africa, Nigeria, and USA etc. These reports matched the calculations."

Local Sighting: It was cloudy and rainy on the evening of Sunday April 6, 2008 in many parts of central Virginia. Moon was not sighted in Central Virginia, accordingly Rabi Awal in the area was of 30 days and Rabi Thani started from Tuesday April 8, 2008.

National:

According to Moonsighting.com "Crescent Hilal of Rabi Ath-Thani 1429 was sighted on April 6, 2008G at several places in North America including Austin, Texas. Hence Rabiul-Awwal is 29 days and Rabi Ath-Thani 1429H starts on April 7 2008G in North America..."

Local Sighting: Some members of Muslim community in Richmond area did see the moon on the evening of Saturday March 8, 2008 soon after Maghrib (Sunset) time clear above the sky.

National: According to Moonsighting.com "No Positive moon Sighting reports were received from anywhere in North America on March 7 2008G. We complete 30 days of the month of Safar 1429H. Rabi Al-Awwal starts on Sunday, March 9, 2008 in North America. Moonsighting on March 8, from Virginia and Florida is confirmed. The visibility map below is for March 8, 2008..."

Local Sighting: Muslims in Central Virginia did not see the moon on Thursday February 7, 2008 Magrib (sunset) time. Next day Friday February 8, 2008 number of local Muslims saw the moon clear in the sky.

Therefore first of Safar based on local moon sighting in Richmond area started from Saturday February 9, 2008.

National Sighting:

According to Moonsighting "On Feb. 7, Thursday the Crescent Moon was reported SEEN in Arizona, and California USA. On Feb. 8, it was seen in Pakistan and westward in almost every country..."
